As students from V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in Ukraine participated in IAAC in previous years, I would like to bring an international program to your attention that complements the work your students do in astronomy and astrophysics. Today’s astronomy is increasingly computational, large-scale data analysis, simulation, and algorithm design are now everyday tools in the field, and students who pair their interest in the cosmos with computer science skills tend to go a long way.
The International Computer Science Competition (ICSC) is a good entry point for that:
Title: International Computer Science Competition
Deadline: Sunday, 5 July 2026
Eligibility: Middle School, High School, and University Students
Details: ICSC is a three-round educational program for students worldwide. The Qualification Round consists of five problems combining conceptual reasoning and programming, solved at home. Those who qualify advance to the Pre-Final Round (a research phase plus a supervised exam) and then to a digitally monitored Final taken from home. All participants receive certificates; top performers earn international and national awards worth over 1500 USD.
